30 Runners, 27 Swimmers particpate in Aug. 4th 5K Race/1-Mile Swim

The Lifetime Wellness Center’s 8th Annual Rudy Martin Memorial 5K Run and 1-Mile Swim took place on Saturday, August 4, 2012, at Hungry Mother State Park, with 30 runners participating. First place went to Doug Covington with a time of 21:08, followed by Drew Richardson (22:27) and Greg Hoofnagle (23:41). First overall female was Lydia Bussey (27:18), followed by Cathy Wheeler (27:39) and Betsy Hoofnagle (27:50). Twenty-seven swimmers took to the water in the 1-mile swim. First place went to Evan Naff (24:50), second was Wilson Naff (24:58) and third was John Walker (25:56). First place overall in the 1-mile swim for the women’s division went to Erin O’Donnell Humsi (28:17), followed by Carah Whichard (28:38) and third Ellie Hainsworth (29:56).

A special thank you goes to Hungry Mother State Park for allowing the Lifetime Wellness Center to host this event each year. Also, a thank you to Mark Prater (Atkins Exxon) for donating water and Gatorade for the athletes and First United Methodist Church for the use of the church bus and Denton Staley, driver, to transport runners to the back side of the lake for the race start.
